Development of technology of recombinant DNA allowing transfer of a great variety of genetic information across species in a more precise manner. The gene from microrganism, plants, animal could be transfered to plant genome and genetically modified plants are produced. Genetic modification (GM) has the potential to offer very significant improvements in the quantity, quality and acceptability of the world's food supply. The first generation of geneticaly modifiefd crops with "input" traits as insect resistance, herbicide tolerance, delayed ripening, virus resistance are currently on the market. The more consumers oreinted products that should soon be on market including improving or modified quality. Products we can expect to see further down the road include stress tolerant plants, improving yield and genes affected plant growth. Each new products, inclucling genetically modified, undergo through rigorous safetty assesment befor introduce in food chain. When introducing any new technology and products into food chain there is need to adopt some safegards to protect human health. Of course, consumers all around the world want to know are the food on the market from genetically modified crops and have a right to choose whether to eat genetically modified foods or not. Most countries adopted regulations that required labeling GM products underlying GM or non GM content.
